Blended Learning: Waves of Innovation
Innovation Proposal, Literature Review, & Implementation Outline

Goal: To pilot and implement Blended Learning: Station Rotation Model with my First Grade Students in Math and ELA.
“Blended learning is the engine that can make student-centered learning possible for students worldwide” (Horn et al., 2015)

What if every child had their own personal teacher?
Ebb and flow... that's education. I'm trying to keep surfing these waves before the tides sweep me under.
I must be courageous and innovative; therefore, I decided to try Blended Learning with hybrid, Station Rotation model.
From Teach Like a Pirate, Burgess (2012) tells “To win in the classroom, you must develop the ability to take leaps of faith. Nobody is going to die if we experiment in the classroom and it doesn’t work out” (p. 158).
I have proposed an initiative of using Station Rotation Model in ELA and Math content areas with first grade students. I hope to inspire and encourage educators to take the risks with Blended Learning as the reward is worth it!

The research is new but refreshingly positive towards Blended Learning. Personalized learning is especially important in young students' education because differentiation is much needed. It is important to use Online Learning so our students are better prepared for real-world technology of the future.

I have created an Implementation strategy for piloting Blended Learning in my students' learning. I hope to gain support from school leadership, staff, and parents as I continue. I created a SMART goal in preparing for the pilot. Specific: First Grade class will implement Station Rotation in Math block and ELA centers. Measurable: Evaluate data regularly to drive rotation schedules. Achievable: Design system for placing students in certain rotations. Realistic: Align rotations with Common Core State Standards and Curriculum that are already in place. Timeline: 1 year to 2 years.
